Reginald DesRoches

Biography
Reginald DesRoches is Rice University’s eighth president. He also serves as a professor of civil and environmental engineering and of mechanical engineering. DesRoches served as the key technical leader in the United States’ response to the 2010 Haiti earthquake. He also has participated in numerous congressional briefings to underscore the critical role that university research plays in addressing the country’s failing infrastructure and enhancing the nation’s resilience to natural hazards. DesRoches is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and is a fellow of American Society of Civil Engineers and the Structural Engineering Institute. DesRoches earned his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, a Master of Science in Civil Engineering and a Doctorate in Structural Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley.
